Birthday Wishes!
Sept. 3: Today is Alex's 17th birthday! We ate at home, because things are crazy with the rodeo. Jameson is putting flyers on cars for the music department, and Jermaya is selling programs for Key Club. Alex had too much homework to volunteer! :(
This is Alex's first chocolate cake ever! He LOVED it! We shared our birthday traditions, of course. In Nigeria, his mom would could him the dinner of his choice, and his sister would make a white cake. They would get to drink Pepsi with the meal. His siblings would give him gifts such as frame that they would all sign and he could hang. His friends would give him gifts like snacks.
In our family, we usually go out to eat at the restaurant of the birthday kid's choice. We couldn't go tonight, so we will go on Saturday. We also have cake and sing "Happy Birthday". Then, the birthday kid gets to blow out the candles, one for each year. Alex said that there are not candles on cakes in Nigeria. In fact, he wondered if we should eat them! When I explained that they are made of wax, he laughed and said, "Oh, no!" He opened gifts and cards after that. He was very excited to receive his very first card ever in the mail yesterday, from IRIS! Who knew such a little thing could mean so much? I wish I had that on video...
Happy Birthday Alex. I hope your having an awesome day celebrating your birthday.
